At Creative Bridges, kids are free to decide for themselves how to spend their time each day, within the the bounds of community rules and norms. Our Center is a vibrant and dynamic place, and what we do here is different all the time. You can see the organization board in the photo for a glimpse at what kids enjoy on any given day. And, all the kids and grown-ups have their own unique perspective on what it’s like to be a part of this community. We play board games, build things, organize games, make music, talk to each other, and play in the forest. Sometimes we do dissections. Sometimes we share stories about gross leftovers in the fridge. Always, we are learning: about the world, about each other, about ourselves.
We also offer service learning two days per week (Wednesday and Fridays this year). Children are asked to give back to the community in a way that nurtures their own skills and strengths. We have partnered with a farm across the street and for about 30 minutes everyone chooses and area to help with. Examples might be bringing hay down from the loft in the barn and stacking it, or walking dogs, or brushing or walking the horses, or cleaning or fixing fencing. We never really know what it looks like on any given day, but that is the nature of farming!
